Doctor of Psychiatry Jose “JV” de Veyra Cruz Jr. passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024 at the age of 77 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy.

Dr. Cruz is an alum of both Don Bosco and the University of the Philippines, College of Medicine. He was a decades long resident of Makati Medical Center and also served as a Life Fellow of the Philippine Psychiatry Association. Dr. Cruz took tremendous pride in his work and his patients, and he shared his passion for life with all his colleagues and patients over the years.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Dr. Cruz. He could just as easily enjoy an exquisite meal with friends as much as the hustle and bustle of commuting on Manila’s public transportation to the hospital. His laugh and his playful personality was contagious to everyone he called a loved one. Also man of deep faith, Dr. Cruz also found steadiness in his devotion to the church and would always find time for prayer. Dr. Cruz is survived by his loving family: sister Emma and her children and grandchildren, brothers Noel and Raul and their children and grandchildren, sisters Cheryl and Valerie and their children and many cousins, nieces, and nephews both in the Philippines and abroad.
