With our deepest sadness, we announce the death of our father, husband, leader and friend to many. Tom Robertson Todd, Jr. passed away peacefully on October 14th, at the age of 71.
Tom or Tommy as some knew him lived a full life. Born and raised in simpler times by his great aunt and uncle “Sweetie” and “Bobby”, Tom had a childhood of horses, farms and family in and around Memphis Tennessee. Tom excelled in his education and athletics.
Tom’s education included a US. Naval Scholarship at the University of Mississippi, a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Memphis State University, PHD work at Texas A&M and finally the California Institute of Technology. Tom earned multiple academic honors including Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, most outstanding engineering student and teacher of the year.
Tom’s engineering career spanned 55 years and began in Memphis, TN doing projects all over the US, Japan, Kwajalein Atolls, and the Philippines. In his later career his business was focused in Guam, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines
Tom was a courageous, adventurous and loving man. Tom prioritized his family and friendships, and was always a voice of reason, inspiration and council. He loved travel, exploration, and the ocean. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Corazon Hobayan Todd, children Jeanette Violet (Paul) Thomas of Jacksonville, FL, Lawrence Ross (Paten) Todd, May Ann Hobayan Todd of Boston, MA, and James Ivan “Jimmy” Todd. He also leaves two grandchildren, Lucas and Camille.
We will have a service for Tom at 1pm Monday, October 17th at Arlington Memorial Chapels where his body now likes in wake.
